Cake Friday – We are a 3 cake company

Cake Icon

Every Friday at Madgex is “Cake Friday”. At 9am we get a delivery of great cakes from Baobab café. Today was

Carrot Cake
“A fantastically light but moist carrot cake made with raisins, orange juice and pumpkin seeds, topped off with a cream cheese icing and a hint of lime”

Banana Nut Brownies
“Already established as a Baobab classic; made with organic chocolate, these are rich, moist and nutty.”

Flapjacks
“An all time classic with the added twist of pumpkin seeds and coconut”

Cake

Out of all the reason I like working at Madgex, Cake Friday has to come close to the top of the list. I think the carrot cake is my favourite. As we grow it has also become my measure of the company’s size. This week Madgex moved to be a 3 cake company.

It is also nice that people have started bringing in cakes for Friday. “Can you bake cakes?” is now officially part of our interview question. Not something you would usually ask a web designer or developer.

I'm greatly relieved that I wasn't quizzed about cake. I love cake, I could eat it 'til the proverbial cows come home but, like Bruce, am culinarily (?) challenged. I can, however, paint great cake pictures should anyone feel the need for inspirational images of cake during those hard times when it's thin on the ground... on 'No Cake Mondays', for instance!

Cake days seem to be a bit of a Brighton institution. Cogapp, the company I work for, have been doing Cake Thursday for the past 3 years or so, as have Nexus (~ 1 year). Our rationale for Thursday afternoon was that it was perceived to be the lowest point of the week, so eating cake would brighten it up :)

At Worth we go one better and have a Bake Off competition every friday - 2 people going head to head with their finest cakey offerings in a World Cup style tournament. We're currently in the quarter final stages...

I'm disappointed that I didn't get asked whether I could bake cakes! Perhaps it's for the best though--my cake baking skills need a little work.

The cakes look delicious!
